The Women’s Film Festival FEMCINE invites female directors from Chile and the rest of the world to participate in one of its three competition categories: International Feature Length Competition, International Short Film Competition, and the National Chilean Film School Short Film Competition. The deadline for submission is November 15, 2020 at midnight, Chilean standard time.

1. FESTIVAL DATES:
The festival will take place online via the FESTHOME TV platform on March 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28, 2021 and will be available for viewing throughout Chile only.
2. OBJECTIVES:
FEMCINE was created to discover and support the work done by female filmmakers and to share films with gender-based subjects with a broader audience.
3. COMPETITION CATEGORIES:
A. INTERNATIONAL FEATURE LENGTH COMPETITION
- Films must be at least 60 minutes in length and no longer than 120 minutes, including credits.
- We only accept films directed solely by female filmmakers.
B. INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION
- Films must not exceed 30 minutes in length, including credits.
- We only accept films directed solely by female filmmakers.
C. NATIONAL CHILEAN FILM SCHOOL SHORT FILM COMPETITION
- Films must not exceed 30 minutes in length, including credits.
- We only accept films directed solely by female filmmakers.
- This category is open to young female filmmakers who are currently students or who graduated in 2018 from one of the many film schools or institutes that offer audiovisual or related degrees in Chile. The films submitted must have been produced while they were still students.
4. GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR SUBMISSION
- We accept fiction, documentary, animation and/or experimental films that were produced between January 1, 2018 and November 15, 2020, the date the competition submission closes. We will not accept any films that have previously been submitted to a FEMCINE competition, except those that participated in the Work In Progress Program.
- The registration fee is USD $5.00 for feature films and USD $2.00 for shorts. Chilean films can register free of charge through our website.
- Priority shall be given to films that have not premiered previously in Chile, prior to their exhibition in the Festival.
- All the films in the competition categories must be directed, or co-directed, solely by female filmmakers.
- All films that were not originally filmed in Spanish, must contain adequate subtitles in English or Spanish in NTSC standard for the selection process. Should the film be selected, the applicant must provide a film version with Spanish subtitles.
- Films will only be accepted electronically in H.264 format, with an .mp4 or .mov extension, spoken or subtitled in Spanish or English for the pre-selection process. You may submit your film for the pre-selection process through Click For Festivals, Festhome, Vimeo, Dropbox, Youtube, or WeTransfer. The applicant shall be responsible for any costs related to submission of the film or related material.
- No submitted material shall be returned.
5. GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR SELECTION AND PARTICIPATION:
- The films submitted for participation in the competition in its various categories shall undergo a selection process that shall be curated by a team comprised of the festival organizers and programmers.
- The selection committee’s decision is final and not subject to appeal.
- The filmmakers and/or producers of the films selected for participation in the competition, agree to include the phrase «Official FEMCINE Women’s Film Festival Selection» or «Official FEMCINE Selection» on all their publicity and press material, along with the Festival logo.
- The films selected for participation in the competition may be used for educational purposes or as part of the touring programs organized in conjunction with FEMCINE, all of these activities are free and not-for profit. The Festival in turn agrees to inform the filmmakers of said activities ahead of time.
- The Festival may use stills and clips of the films selected for participation in the competition for all FEMCINE publications, festival trailers, press coverage, and preview screenings to promote the event. The Festival will in no way benefit monetarily from these instances and all film rights shall remain in the hands of the filmmakers themselves.
- Once a film has been selected for the competition, it may not be removed from the FEMCINE program.
- The films shall be exhibited digitally via the FESTHOME TV platform, H.264 format. The screening copy must be in Spanish or contain Spanish subtitles following the NTSC standard.
- Screening copies of the films selected for competition, with the appropriate Spanish subtitles if not originally filmed in Spanish, and all other complementary material (trailer, stills, director photos and bio) must be received in our offices by February 03, 2020, at the latest. Failure to do so may preclude inclusion in the catalog.
6. JURY:
- Will be comprised of national and foreign personalities from audiovisual, arts, film industry, and cultural fields, who will be selected based on their curriculum and invited by the Festival to participate.
- Individuals directly related to the films selected for competition, will be ineligible to participate as members of the jury.
- There will be three official judges for each of the competition categories.
- The judges’ decision shall be final and not subject to appeal.
7. PRIZES
The prizes shall be awarded to whosoever possesses the rights in the region.
A. INTERNATIONAL FEATURE LENGTH COMPETITION
- First prize shall receive:
- Radio DeMente prize: promotion of the winning film via its online radio platform, valued at $2.5 million CLP,
- $650,000 CLP (approximately equivalent to USD $835),
- and the FEMCINE statuette.
- Honorable mention will receive a certificate.
B. INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION
- First prize shall receive:
- $350,000 CLP (approximately equivalent to USD $500),
- and the FEMCINE statuette.
- Honorable mention will receive a certificate.
C. NATIONAL CHILEAN FILM SCHOOL SHORT FILM COMPETITION
- First prize shall receive:
- TONOSFERA prize:one-year synchronization license, allowing the holder free access to the Tonosfera library to musicalize one future non-commercial audiovisual project, royalty-free with no limit on tracks used for a single project. Valued at between $3500 to $6500 USD. This prize will be valid for 12 months from the date the winner is announced.
- and the FEMCINE statuette.
- Honorable mention will receive a certificate.
8. ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS
By submitting a film to the Festival, you agree to these terms and conditions.
